David Hobbs Music Foundation Scholarship

The David Hobbs Music Foundation has established two annual scholarships to high school seniors in Waukee, Iowa and Waconia, Minnesota starting with the graduating class of 2008.

David attended elementary and junior high school in Waukee, Iowa and high school in Waconia, Minnesota. He said that throughout his life he had many interests and was blessed to experience a wide variety of things; however music was a constant passion. Dave taught us to hold close the things that are important to us; spending time with family, making people laugh, having the courage to express yourself openly, and to chase our dreams. May David’s love for music help others pursue their dreams.

The scholarships are $350 each and go to students that have demonstrated a love of music. The specific requirements for each scholarship are available to students through the two schools. The first year’s scholarship recipients are Elizabeth Tomlinson (Waukee) & Addison Born (Waconia).

LMI Africa - Lighthouse Ministries International of Africa

David was concerned about people in need throughout many parts of the world. He showed an interest in the plight in Africa and wanted to learn more about what could be done there. The David Hobbs Music Foundation has made its first contributions to Lighthouse Ministries International of Africa for $2,600 to help with the children they are supporting in Kenya. For more information concerning the work of Boni and Sandy Karanja and the LMI team please visit their website at

LMI recently purchased a keyboard with some of the money to start a music program for the girls. Music, joy, happy faces, we are all one!

FSMA - Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy

For the past two years David's friend Stephanie and her family have participated in a local FSMA Walk n' Roll that supports Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA is the disease Stephanie's younger sister Sophia died from in the summer of 2006. Stephanie shared that Last September (2007), "David was visiting Minnesota the weekend of the walk and we were fortunate to have him be part of Team Sophie! He had such a big heart for all of the SMA kids there. This was the last day I was able to spend with Dave and will remember it forever." The David Hobbs Music Foundation has made a $500 contribution to support Team Sophie. For more information about FSMA check out their web site at

Variety – The Children’s Charity

Simply put, Variety is all about helping Iowa’s children in need.  Programs supported by Variety benefit children’s hospitals, youth at risk, disabled children and more—everything from funding projects to the purchase of medical equipment.  If it has to do with helping kids, you can count on Variety being involved! The David Hobbs Music Foundation has pledged $500 for the March 2008 Annual Fundraising Campaign for Variety. For more information on the organization: www.varietyiowa.com

American Cancer Society

We have supported several friends in their "Relay for Life" events and contributed $525 so far to help in their work to prevent suffering from this disease that touches us all.

Thank you SO MUCH for your generous contribution to the American Cancer Society and your encouraging message!  I've attached a few pictures from the relay; it was a very powerful night!  There were thousands of luminaries around the track that we lit at dusk which burned until dawn when we blew them out.  I walked until 5AM and then drove down to the lake and took pictures of the sunrise.  As night fell it was dark and got cold and there's a feeling of powerlessness as fatigue set in.  Then the morning dawned and the sunrise was AWESOME which I assimilated to a new day bringing hope and encouragement to those of us who have often wondered over the past year what God's plan is for us.”

Elijah Hancock Fund

On December 24th, 2007, Elijah Hancock was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).   Following 37 days of hospitalization and many different tests and treatments, Elijah has been able to return home.  However, Elijah’s battle is far from over.  For the next 3 ½ years, Elijah will continue to receive the necessary care to help him fight his battle with cancer. The David Hobbs Music Foundation has made its first contribution for $200 to help Elijah and his family. Cash donations or checks made to the Elijah Hancock Fund can be sent to: 6089 Nottingham Drive Johnston, IA  50131

KinderCare

We donated soccer balls, a special story book with David’s favorite bedtime story, and games for the children in the class that David taught. One of David’s students gave us this special picture.

Willow House

We supported the “Champions of Hope” annual benefit and the Willow House with a $583 contribution. Through their efforts, they provide direct support to grieving children, teens, and families as they cope with the life-altering experience of the death of a mom, dad and spouse or brother, sister and child.  www.willowhouse.org
